What Excites You?
The health of our mind + body + spirit is not a static thing that can be measured at a specific level and then be pre-determined to follow a flat route; our health is a dynamic state that is always in transformation. Recently, I've had this realization that the health of our body is entirely dependent upon the level of vitality we experience in our bodies, and this feeling of vitality is the feeling of being alive. But as we all know, our moods, feelings & energies fluctuate - we are all bound to the universal law of inhale & exhale, yin & yang, high positive energy & lower energy states. So I want to ask you, under what circumstances do you feel the most truly alive? Is it when you co-create amazing sex, is it when you're hiking out in the wilderness, is it when you're bathing in ocean waters, is it when you're fishing, is it when you're making music, or is it when you're sitting in an office behind a computer screen working?I realized that it doesn't matter what we do; it could be pilates, it could be yoga, it could be lifting weights, it could be going for a hike in the wilderness, snowboarding down the mountain, or even just swimming in the ocean in Hawaii, it could even be sitting behind a computer screen working, it could be Kundalini Yoga or Iyengar Yoga - it doesn't matter what form the practice is ultimately. What matters is that one feels excited, uplifted, energetically more alive and more present and in the moment. If Iyengar Yoga is making you feel depleted and bored and frustrated, then it's not the right practice for you. Likewise, if snorkeling in a reef surrounded by sea turtles and schools of fish makes you feel bored, then it's not making you feel more alive and revitalizing you. Likewise, if your job, school, or relationship is making you feel bored, irritated, frustrated or stuck - it is depleting you of your vital life force energy! We must all protect and nourish our vital life force energy, because it is this energy that keeps us healthy and imbues our bodies with longevity. As we all know, when we are sick - we are in a low energy state, when we are depressed - we are in a low energy state. When we are in these states, we are more vulnerable to the many challenges that can get dumped on us - we become like a garbage disposal drain for all this low energy, negative and toxic stuff to get churned through and spat out to the great cosmic soup of all creation. Each one of us needs to do things in our lives that make us feel more revitalized and excited, but that varies so much from person to person, and is completely subjective. Some of my friends love to snowboard. I'd rather be on the beach smothering my body in avocado and bathing in the ocean and snorkeling with sea turtles than being in the snow. Some of my friends love to build permaculture projects on their land, while others love to practice African dance. I have this feeling that all of these choices are great choices for each person; it is truly the amount and regularity of how much enjoyment we receive in our experience; how much pleasure, joy, happiness, inspiration we receive that is truly what contributes towards the greatest amount of positive effect on the health of our body. Which is why I truly don't believe that any particular path should be a zealously endorsed or enforced path for all people, because not everybody is going to feel excited by the same things. For example, a vegan may get excited by eating veggies and beans, and a meat eater may get more excited about eating veggies and buffalo - but if either one of them were forced to eat only what the other ate, either one might feel frustrated and angry and become depleted energetically because they're not doing what they enjoy, what excites them. Which is why I am sensing that any lifestyle choice could be positive, so long as it excites the person doing it and makes them feel more vitalized, rather than them feeling like they have to do it because they have to fit within a program, a paradigm, a belief system or a box that is not 100% authentic for them.Recently, I've been making little decisions in my life based on what excites me more. I really began to notice this with my altars; I would place an object in one spot and then place it in another spot and I would make my final choice on its location by which spot made me feel more excited. It made me realize that in putting the sacred object where I felt the most excited by it, when I looked at the altar and made my daily offerings and prayers, I would receive more juice and energy from the altar because it made me more connected to it because of how excited it made me feel.Likewise, our life is filled with choices - big choices and little choices, and they all matter. And thus I when I am struggling with making a decision between this choice or that choice, I am asking myself now "what makes me feel more excited?"So, I want to ask you - what excites you?
