Multiple Reality Disorder
When the Americas were colonized and genocided, the primary reason was that two fundamentally opposite perspectives or experiences of reality came face to face with each other - and they were not able to mutually coexist. Millions of people were killed, and the ancient ways of life of entire regions and villages were destroyed, because the languages, songs, cultural beliefs, the rituals and lifestyles - all stood to express that they had a completely different experience of reality than that of the white skinned Europeans that came to the Americas. A culture based on wealth, accumulation, greed, and hierarchy, came into contact with a people who lived lifestyles in touch with Nature, an intact non-western reality bubble, maintaining a completely different way of interfacing with the nature of reality. In those times, the discrepency between these two ways of interfacing with reality were simply not able to coexist, and as a result, the one that had the more aggressive, arrogant, hierarchical, selfish, bloodlusty weapons and beliefs won the battle. In recent times, in "Modern" industrialized societies, there were dominant paradigms that existed - and most people consciously or unconsciously agreed to the statutes of that reality view - whether it was in Victorian England, Mid 1920s Paris, suburban Detroit in the 70s, or midwestern high schools in the 80s and 90s - most people in that culture and time shared an agreed upon consensual experience of reality and navigaged from that. In general, those that experienced altered realities or different mind states were relegated to the categories of weird, strange, unusual or possibly even schizophrenic. It was simply impossible for Antonin Artaud to exist in 1930s Paris without being experienced as schizophrenic, despite the fact that he was a visionary genius who was experiencing a completely different, and wholly unique to himself, reality. But these days, we seem to each be experiencing our own unique realities, wholly unique to ourselves. In modern America, there are many universally agreed upon experiences in the consensual reality, such as monetary systems, coffee cups, tables, chairs, cars and facebook. Yet it seems we are all beginning to fragment into highly specialized, unique to ourselves reality perspectives that have been created & enforced by our experiences, habits, education, belief systems and intuitions. Sometimes we find similar people - kindred "tribe" who speak our language and seem to embody a familiar reality frequency, and with them, we feel at home, comfortable, & safe. With others, we may distrust or judge, because they seem to embody a wholly different slice of the reality pie.How do we create peace on earth - a harmonious, working, functioning, thriving, mutually supportive ecosystem of interlocking web of relationships that are not based upon oppression or taking advantage of others? In a world where we are all increasingly emerging from a narrow bandwidth of the reality pie, how do we each embody and make our slice of the reality pie accessible to others? How can we create a peaceful earth if our conflicting interests and differing perspectives of reality cannot learn how to function together, and instead bicker, distort, judge, and create separation? How does one person who is totally narrowed in on an agenda of New World Order Corruption, Political Structures and Sustainability mix with another person who talks only about sex, orgasms and is blissing out with ecstasy regularly? How can one person who is focused on the fight for Lyme Disease recognition come and meet with another person who is driven by the quest to make a documentary about QiGong and esoteric Internal Martial Arts? How will any of these people interact with another person who owns a construction business and is unhealthy, unsatisfied, and sexually frustrated in a marriage of 25 years?I understand that it is important for us to find the people who really see us, can allow us to be our true selves, be recognized & seen in our authenticity, and speak a kindred language. But ultimately we are all so different, and in the day to day relationships, we will undoubtedly encounter and work with people who have wildly different perspectives and will not really be able to meet us where we are at. I wish I had some answer for this dilemma of being in a world of multiple realities interfacing with each other. Of course, we no longer have the opportunity to simply obliterate the realities of others that stand in opposition of ours.It is truly my belief that compassion is the only answer to living in this paradox of multiple realities bumping into each other. We have all seen what comes from judgment of each other; we see it every day. And this judgment distorts the tenuous psychic threads that weave themselves between us on in our daily spheres. It is simply my hope that by bringing mindful attention to the reality that we are each coming from a magnificent universe unique to ourselves, we can learn how to be more sensitive to the amazing and unique realities we encounter when we meet and discover the universes of each other.Art by Willow Arlenea
